The Bible

This story was from the chicken soup for the teenage soul. volume 1. multiple writers. Stories found by Jack Canfield, Mark Hasen and Kim Kirberger.

This story is short, simple, story that gets to the point; basically a modern folktale. The son is on his graduation day, hoping to get a big fancy present for his special, well earned day. Family tradition is that the son of whomever is graduating gets a car. So graduation day comes, but the father hands him a bible, no car! The son makes a fit, threw the bible on the floor, left, and father and son never saw each other again. Years later the father dies. In the will, he got the same bible. To his surprise, he found a check inside the bible. The amount was the exact total of money of the car he wanted.
This teaches us that things are not what they seem. The sons fury was so strong he didn’t even thing to look inside it. Its very sad. This also teaches us that people should be gracious for what we have. For example, the son lost his father without saying goodbye or anything. If he was glad with the gift he had, the father would have been in the son’s life, and would have gotten the car.
